PROJECT 1 / DESIGN WORKSPACE

The concept of this design is rooted in the idea of bringing the natural world into the workspace. Inspired by various elements of nature, each area within the office is designed to emulate a different aspect of the natural landscape. The desk area, referred to as "The Forest," is surrounded by hanging plants, creating a serene and inspiring atmosphere. In contrast, the boardroom, aptly named "The Cave," features a glass and timber enclosure, providing semi private space for client meetings. The collaborative area, named "The Lake," mirrors nature's gathering points, fostering collaboration and creativity. A parametric ceiling feature that mimics the flow of water, cascading plants, curved shapes and natural finishes form integral elements of the design.

With an open-plan layout, the office space is designed to feel interconnected, akin to an ecosystem in nature, breaking away from the traditional corporate environment and promoting a sense of openness and collaboration with spaces that flow into each other seamlessly. Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design principles, the aesthetic incorporates a neutral color palette with warm accents, seamlessly tying into the brand identity and creating an aesthetic atmosphere. Overall, the design aims to prioritizes wellness through biophilia, creating a warm and richly textured experience.

PROJECT 2 / NEXUS HOTEL

The Nexus boutique Hotel revolves around fostering connective experiences on multiple levels. Situated along the scenic coast of Gansbaai, the design aims to connect guests with the natural environment through activities like diving, boat trips, and nature walks. Additionally, the hotel provide spaces for social connection at the signature the dining area, lounges, and feature gin bar. Finally, the hotel spa offers services geared towards relaxation and inner connection, including a unique guided meditation experience and products made using local botanicals . Nexus is not just a place to stay; it's a nexus of connections — with nature, with others, and with oneself.

PROJECT 3 / PLATO BREW

The design of Plato Brew aims to redefine the traditional brewery experience by introducing a more elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from the existing brand concept Plato Brew offers more than just a place to grab a beer; it provides a community-focused experience where people can connect and build meaningful relationships. The design is minimalist taking inspiration from Japanese design principles, to create a relaxed and serene environment. The space integrates minimalist design principles with luxurious elements, such as bronze barrels, opulent lighting, and bespoke furnishings. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows enclose the brewery, creating an immersive environment that invites customers to engage with the brewing process and learn about craft beer production and Plato's passion for providing quality handcrafted brews. Warm timber furnishings, linen textiles, and sage green feature walls—echo the signature style of existing Plato cafes, unifying the brands identity.

PROJECT 4 / CARGO HOLD

Oceanic Odyssey invites diners on a captivating journey from the ocean's depths to the vibrant surface. The ground floor evokes the enchanting underwater world, offering an intimate dining experience akin to exploring the ocean's hidden recesses. Using rich, dark tones, flowing lines, and diatom-inspired lighting enhances the connection between guests and marine life, immersing them in a serene underwater atmosphere. Ascending to the first floor, the ambiance transforms into a sunlit beachscape, celebrating the ocean's tranquility meeting the shoreline. Here, light wood finishes and sandy textures create a sense of airiness, capturing the essence of a beachside escape. At the topmost level, the design embraces the lively spirit of a cruise ship deck, encouraging social gatherings around the feature bar. This seamless transition from the ocean's abyss to the sunlit shore forms an unforgettable dining odyssey that celebrates the ocean's beauty and diversity and creates and immersive and unforgettable dining experience.

PROJECT 5 / CURATOR HOUSE

The concept explores the idea that all life forms are interconnected through subtle vibrations and energies, This reflects the Lapalala Wilderness school’s mission of environmental awareness and emphasizing humanity's profound impact on nature, and how nature responds to our actions. The spatial concept draws inspiration from the natural patterns of sound waves, exploring how energy emanates from a central point creating waves that expand outward in continuous motion. The five spaces within the curator house flow into one another naturally with gentle transitions making the space feel interconnected. The exhibition space is comprised of curved walls that ripple outward from a central point creating a series of pathways. This layout mimics the ripple affects of water within nature. Biophilic elements play a key role, connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces so that guests feel at one with nature.
